"Georgian Emigrants" announce start of protest actions

The NGO named "Georgian Emigrants" demands better life for Georgian emigrants and their families and announces that from May 29 on they start sitting protest actions in front of the parliament. Activists of the organization accuse authorities of inattention and threaten to go on hunger strike.

The statement disseminated by the organization runs that the authorities try to split the community of emigrants: "The country leaders invite only rich emigrants to Georgia's Independence Day, while requests of poor compatriots and members of their families are ignored."

The "Trend" Agency reports that the not exhaustive list to be sent by "Georgian Emigrants" to Prime Minister Nika Gilauri includes demands to pay more attention to Georgian emigrants, release illegal prisoners, stop tapping telephone conversations and ensure the freedom of mass media.

On May 27, Tbilisi marked for the third time the Day of Georgian Diaspora. On the occasion, delegations of Georgian Diasporas from France, USA, Italy, Spain, Russia, Switzerland, Azerbaijan, Germany, Greece, Cyprus, Belgium, Japan, Armenia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Israel, Turkey, Canada, Austria, Iran and Sweden came to the capital of the country, the Agency "Georgia-Online" reports.
