At trial over Fatulleyev held in Azerbaijan statements of prosecution witnesses concluded

In the Garadag district court of Baku, at a trial of the earlier sentenced journalist Eynulla Fatullayev who is charged with drug possession this time, the statements of prosecution witnesses concluded. As it was reported by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, evidences were given by the convicts of prison colony No12 where Fatullayev is serving time. Witness Orudge Bairamov has stated that in the colony Fatullayev allegedly confessed him to using drugs during his service in the army.

Witness Orudzh Bairamov claimed that Fatullayev not only confessed him to use drugs in the army but also was willing to take drugs in the prison colony. Furthermore, Bairamov allegedly claimed that more than once he saw Fatullayev 'intoxicated', however the witness failed to specify what kind of drugs Fatullayev was intoxicated with and where he took it from.

When asked by Fatullayev's advocate Rashid Gadzhyla what Bairamov was convicted for, after some hesitations the latter admitted he was sustaining conviction 'for the rape of under-age daughter of his common-law wife.' "What can you expect of such person, he can confirm any meanness", Fatullayev said in his turn. In his words, in the colony he has not associated with Bairamov at all.

The second witness, convict Ragim Mamedov in his evidences on drug use by Fatullayev was not so positive. He said he did not know about the journalist's drug use. On the other hand, when answering the judge's question whether drugs could have been planted on Fatullayev, Mamedov replied in the negative.

Azer Akhmedov also asserted that he knew nothing about Fatullayev's drugging in the colony.

Shakhin Shamsiev stated as well that he did not know Fatullayev uses drugs.

Finally, Shakhin Shamsiev, who was disclosed as being in drug possession the same day with Fatullayev, claimed he had found the drugs "near the waste bin in the colony yard."

Yet at the same time Shamsiev said that he had not seen how Fatullayev was searched and the information about finding drugs on Fatullayev caused his surprise.

Judge Ismail Khalilov has set the next court session on the case on 19 May, 11am.
