Monument to Beslan terror act victims to open in Moscow on June 1

The opening ceremony of the memorable sign in Moscow dedicated to the victims of the act of terror in Beslan, committed on September 1-3, 2004, is planned for June 1. The issues of its installation were discussed on May 12 at the working meeting of Alexander Totoonov, deputy chairman of the government of North Ossetia and republic's plenipotentiary at Russian President, with Zurab Tsereteli, President of the Russian Academy of Arts.

It is supposed that the opening ceremony of the memorable sign will take place on June 1, 2010, in Moscow in the square in front of the Temple of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God  in Kulishki (in the Alan Metochion) at the address: 5/2 Solyanka Street.

"It's highly symbolic that the memorable sign will be opened on June 1 - the International Children's Day. By protecting our younger compatriots, their well-being and happiness, we save our tomorrow. And let the memory about Beslan tragedy becomes another reminder about the responsibility that we bear for our children," said Alexander Totoonov has told.

It is expected that the opening ceremony will be attended by representatives of federal authorities, Mayoralty of Moscow, leaders of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, members of the Public chamber of the Russian Federation, and workers of culture and arts.

The initiative to erect in Moscow a commemoration sign of Beslan terror act victims was moved by the leadership of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania. This idea was supported by the Government of Moscow.

As a result of the open contest, the composition offered by the President of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli was recognized to be the winner.

The choice of the place for installation of the monument was not occasional: in 1996, upon the blessing of the Holiest Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexei II, the Temple of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God  in Kulishki was handed over to the Moscow-based Ossetian community.

Let us note here that memorials in memory of Beslan victims have been already established in St Petersburg, North Ossetia, San Marino and Italy.
