Nagorno-Karabakh: wheelchair invalids take part in Shushi-Stepanakert Marathon race
Within the celebrations of the Victory Day, the organization named "Vita" held an action in Nagorno-Karabakh: wheelchair invalids-veterans of the Karabakh War covered 12 kilometres - from the city of Shushi to the city of Stepanakert.
For Nagorno-Karabakh, May 9 is a triple holiday: Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War, Liberation Day of the city of Shushi and Foundation Day of Defence Army of Karabakh.
Asmik S., psychologist of the "Vita", notes that he has been working with invalids for many years; and the main eternal problem with them is in their difficult integration into the society. "Such actions are very necessary; they give the stimulus to these people," he asserts.
David G., a veteran of the Karabakh War and Category I invalid, says that it is his pleasure to take part in this sort of actions. "It's another occasion to go out of home and meet my brothers-soldiers. We are not so many still alive. Maybe such actions have a flavour of "foofooraw", but still we saw that people remember and appreciate us. The May 9 holiday is our dearest," he said.
