Opposition blocks Rustaveli Avenue in Tbilisi demanding release of political prisoners

Today the opposition, which holds a rally in front of the building of Georgian, made a half-an-hour blockade of traffic in the Rustaveli Avenue, demanding to stop politically-motivated prosecutions of citizens and release - after April 16 - all political prisoners.

The protest action is attended by almost all activists of the non-parliamentary opposition, including Nino Burdzhanadze, Levan Gachechiladze and Eka Beseliya.

According to the participants of the action, should the government ignore their demand, protest actions will become broad-scale and permanent, the "Gazeta.Ru" reports.

Ms Beseliya, leader of the social movement "Solidarity with political prisoners", which unites about 50 NGOs, believes that "the fact is significant that in the issue of political prisoners all the political oppositional forces have united, despite differences in their political views."
