Court rejects cassation against verdict on bribery in "Neva-Express" case

The Collegium of the Novgorod Regional Court has rejected cassations on the case of a bribery attempt on the inspector who was dealing with the "Neva-Express" train blowing up in 2007; thus, the verdict entered its legal force.

Let us remind you that on November 24, 2009, the Novgorod City Court sentenced Salambek Dzakhkiev, a resident of Ingushetia, earlier accused of blowing up the "Neva-Express" train, to two years and four months of imprisonment in a minimum security colony, and his defender, Moscow lawyer Magomed Razakov - to two years and two months in a same colony for an attempt to bribe inspector Nikolai Uschapovskiy. The convicts stated their innocence and filed a cassation. Its consideration was first appointed on January 26, then postponed.

As reported by the "Echo of Petersburg", one of the advocates said that the verdict on the bribe attempt will be appealed against at the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR).

The January 26 session took place; however, the Regional Court returned the case to the Novgorod City Court without consideration on the merits, as the "Vremya Novostei" (Time for News) newspaper writes. The City Court was to clarify the technical issues related to the submission date of the motivation part of the cassation complaint by Razakov's defence.
