Lawyer beaten in Dagestan is unconscious and in resuscitation

Lawyer Sergey Kvasov was beaten in central Makhachkala on April 9 by five unidentified persons in masks. He is still unconscious and kept in the resuscitation ward.

The "Caucasian Knot" was informed by Mayerbak Agaev, a correspondent of the "Chernovik" newspaper, that the lawyer was in a hairdressing salon, when several black VAZ-2110 cars with tinted glasses drove up there.

"Five or six persons rushed into the premise and started beating Kvasov with concrete reinforcing bars. Two attackers were in masks, the others – without them. A woman from the saloon ran to call the militia; however, militiamen appeared only in half an hour," Mr Agaev said. "The eyewitnesses assert that the bandits continued beating the lawyer even after he lost consciousness and did not move. When militiamen appeared, the attackers had long vanished into thin air."

According to hospital doctors, at night Kvasov underwent an emergency surgery; his current condition is stably grave; he is unconscious in resuscitation.

In March 2008, Sergey Kvasov ran the  murder case of Gadji Abashilov, Chairman of the GTRK "Dagestan"; he also took part in the processes on the terror act on May 9, 2002, in Kaspiisk, explosion of an apartment house in the city of Buinaksk in 1999, murder of the nephew of the head of Khasavyurt Saigidpasha Umakhanov and other resonant litigations.
