Dagestan plans to stop prostitution and close underground gambling halls

In Makhachkala, the capital of Dagestan, employees of the local prosecutor's office and militia made a raid over saunas, where, according to their operative data, sexual services were rendered. 65 slot machines were confiscated, and 23 women engaged in prostitution were brought to administrative responsibility.

In the course of their action, on March 26 employees of law enforcement bodies checked 82 saunas and 47 hotels.

"We've started with Makhachkala, but similar actions will take place in other cities of the republic," said Rizvan Kurbanov, First Vice-Premier of Dagestan. "In the shortest time we are going to clear Dagestan of this dirt."

Earlier, the Board of Alims and Imams of Dagestan made a decision to launch an explanatory campaign among owners of saunas and night clubs. In the form of a "kind sermon" they were explained that their business is propaganda of the evil and may cause Lord's punishment. To get saved, they were offered to close or re-profile their facilities.
