South Ossetia: oppositional rally postponed

In South Ossetia, activists of the opposition have postponed their rally, earlier appointed on March 20 and 21, till some uncertain future. This was reported by Grigory Dzasokhov, the organizer.

Let us remind you that earlier oppositionists had applied to Tskhinvali Mayoralty on holding a rally on March 20-21 with demands to restore destroyed houses and respect of constitutional rights. The authorities of Tskhinvali did not sanction the rally but suggested to hold an indoor event instead.

Under Dzasokhov's statement, the rally was not cancelled but postponed. "Unlike others, for whom posts are above laws, my supporters and I are law-abiding citizens, even though we know that the refusal to sanction the rally - an encroachment on our rights - was absolutely unjustified," Mr Dzasokhov said in his interview to the Internet edition "Ossetia-Kvaisa" on March 19. "This is not only my opinion. I called up lawyers in Vladikavkaz; and they too have strong reasons to make such conclusion. So, we'll go on acting up to going to court against the Mayoralty's illegal refusal to enjoy my constitutional rights."

Grigory Dzasokhov assures that "the rally will be held anyway, whether the authorities like it or not."
