Ex-deputy of regional Duma accused of pedophilia wanted in Volgograd

Nikolai Volkov, ex-deputy of Volgograd regional Duma, is suspected of raping under-aged children. The militia arrested the influential businessman but he managed to escape. A criminal case has been initiated on the fact of the Volkov's flee.

Volkov, interrogated as a suspect, has confirmed the fact of sex relations with one of the under-aged victims, reports the Russian ICPO for Volgograd region. But on the evening of March 15, after the inspection of the venue of crime, when the investigation officers were taking the suspect Volkov to the office of the Investigation Committee for investigative actions, he managed to escape.

The issue of taking Nikolai Volkov under custody was to be decided on March 16, at the moment he is announced in the federal wanted list, reports "Gazeta.Ru".

By now, four victims have been established; these are children aged 7 and 8, as well as two fourteen year old children. As the investigators have found out, both boys and girls became victims of the rapist. The rapes were committed from 2007 to 2009. The number of victims may actually be greater, reports ITAR-TASS.

"The investigators have traced Volkov in the course of operational work. In the interests of the investigation, we can not give any details of the crimes", says Mikhail Muzraev, chief of the regional investigation department. "It is known from the interrogation of the victims that he lured the children by toys or he gave them money."

This is not the first major scandal in the region involving highly placed party paedophiles, declares "NEWSru.com". In autumn 2009, Yuri Babkin, first secretary of the Krasnooctiabrski district committee of the CPRF in Volgograd was arrested for similar crimes. He taught in two schools, including the subject "Ethics and Psychology of Family Life." Babkin was suspected of raping hundreds of boys.

In the course of interrogations he explained that he had been having sexual relations with boys aged eight years or older for more than 10 years, among other things, during the tourist excursions organized by him.
