Krasnodar Territorial Prosecutor's Office takes the case of attack on Karastelyov under control

The criminal case about the attack committed on February 27 on human rights activist Vadim Karastelyov, advocate of ex-militiaman Alexei Dymovskiy, was transferred to the Investigatory Committee at the Prosecutor's Office (ICPO) for the Krasnodar Territory.

As reported by the website of the Russian General Prosecutor's Office, the decision was made because "the crime committed against the well-known human rights activist caused a broad public resonance and requires the most qualified investigation in the shortest time."

The course of investigation is under special supervision of the Public Prosecutor of the Krasnodar Territory.

Meanwhile, as the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent learnt from Alexei Karastelyov, son of the beaten human rights defender, mass media of Novorossisk were ordered not to publish any information mentioning the attack on Vadim Karastelyov or the progress in Alexei Dymovskiy's case.

"Now, we have support from Moscow, but silence in Novorossisk. As far as I know, workers of local mass media were gathered at the city administration and ordered not to publish anything related to the names of Karastelyov and Dymovskiy," Alexei Karastelyov said in his conversation with the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

His words were confirmed by Karastelyov's advocate Marina Dubrovina who said that Novorossisk mass media did not mention the attack.

She also said that after publications in federal mass media about the attack on Vadim Karastelyov, many phone calls arrived. "People ask what they can do to help and about Karastelyov's health condition," said Dubrovina and added that she was about to leave for Moscow to the press conference dedicated to the beating of the human rights activist.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent failed to receive any comments from the administration of Novorossisk. The person, who answered the call made to the main number of the press service of the administration, having attentively listened to the correspondent's questions, refused to answer them and gave a number of the administration, where "maybe, you'll get explanations." However, nobody answered there.
