People's Party of South Ossetia demands release of Fatima Margieva

Today, the People's Party of South Ossetia has made a statement with indignation against the arrest of its member and public figure Fatima Margieva. In the opinion of the deputies who represent this party, her arrest is illegal and was caused by her political activities.

"It's indicative that the arrest was made right after the appeal of the opposition to start a dialogue with the authorities of the RSO (Republic of South Ossetia) with the aim to bring the republic out of the legal deadlock after the illegitimate elections to the Parliament of RSO on May 31, 2009," said Roland Kelekhsaev, leader of the People's Party.

His statement also ran that his Party demanded that authorities of South Ossetia "immediately release political prisoner Fatima Margieva and bring the country back on legal track."

Meanwhile, the case of Fatima, accused of storing arms, who is kept in custody in Tskhinvali, was sent to the court, where the session was appointed on March 4.

The Radio "Echo of the Caucasus" reports that Judge Dmitri Tekhov will run the case, and the session will be open for journalists.
