Residents of Stavropol Territory stand up to protect mineral source

Residents of the Mineralovodskiy District of the Stavropol Territory stand in defence of the mineral source, located in the place, where local authorities plan to build a landfill for domestic wastes. People are afraid that garbage from the whole vicinity will be brought here.

"We're old people already. And what about our children and our grandsons? Should they pay with their health for that? The wind blows, and the whole village will smell that muck," said Alexander Proskuryakov, a resident of the Prikumskoe village.

The pit, where they plan to dump down wastes, is directly in the place of a mineral water spring. In the opinion of ecologists, the landfill will be a threat not only for this valley, but for the whole region, as Channel One reports.
In their turn, local authorities assure that they have taken everything into account at designing and ask not to call the object a dump.
