Tskhinvali residents call on Georgian authorities to stop capturing South-Ossetians

Today in Tskhinvali, hundreds rallied in the Theatre Square, where the government of South Ossetia organized a supporting event of the detainees illegally kept in the territory of Georgia. Detainees' parents, local MPs, members of the Public Chamber of South Ossetia, poets and journalists spoke addressing the world community trying to urge Georgian authorities to stop capturing citizens of South Ossetia.

As reported to the rally by David Sanakoev, Ombudsman in South Ossetia, "in spite of Thomas Hammarberg's assertions that 'ice broke up' in Georgian-South-Ossetian relations, no concessions in response from the Georgian party are observed." "Georgia continues breaking the agreements," he said.

"Givi Targamasze, chairman of the committee for security and defence of the parliament of Georgia, has broken earlier agreements on delivery of detainees back to South Ossetia. In the meantime, 39 citizens of this republic are still kept in Georgian prisons. The fate of seven of them remains unknown. Earlier this year, Gennady Pliev, another resident of South Ossetia, was kidnapped from the frontier district," he has added.

With the help of Ossetian Diasporas, similar solidarity rallies took place in Moscow and Brussels.
