Head of Russian CEC: re-election of Derbent Mayor is caused not by falsifications

As stated by Vladimir Churov, chair of the Russian Central Electoral Commission (CEC), the election of the Mayor of Derbent was nullified because the majority of voters were listed by the polling stations, which failed to open on the voting day.

Mr Churov said that re-election of Mayor would take place in Derbent before October 2010. "We have time till October to stabilize the situation, first of all, in social and economic spheres, and hold the new election," he said on air of the "Echo Moskvy" Radio.

The Russian CEC has recommended its regional counterpart and administration of Derbent to professionally strengthen the city and precinct electoral commissions in Derbent before the new election.
