Relatives of Farid Babaev, assassinated in Dagestan: defence tries to ruin the case

Relatives of human rights activist Farid Babaev, leader of the Dagestan branch of the "Yabloko" Party, who was killed in 2007 "Apple", are sure that defendants' advocates are doing everything to ruin the case, and in the near future the killers will be at large. The main witness of the prosecution, who saw the gunman, has already given up his evidence.

Babaev's relatives are confident that it was not an occasion that the advocate of witness Akaev is Miasat Abasova - a namesake (and, probably, a relative) of Kerimkhan Abasov, head of the administration of the Dokuzparin District, most malicious enemy of the human rights defender during his life.

The family of the deceased politician also refers the unexpected leave to vacation of the public prosecutor Gusein Alilov to suspicious concurrences. For two years he was engaged in Babaev's case and represented the state prosecution at the first and second trials. As a result, the new public prosecutor had no time at all for getting ready for the process: on the following day after he started his acquaintance with 10 volumes of the criminal case, he was already forced to represent the accusation.

Then, Judge Israfailov removed the chair of the jury for missing one of the sessions and insisted on immediate appointment of a new chairperson.
The official website of the "Yabloko" Party states that the Babaev family unites all these events into a campaign, where the aim is to release the killers from any responsibility.

In the opinion of Sergey Mitrokhin, leader of the "Yabloko", now the huge efforts of the investigatory bodies, which have created a precedent of potential punishment of the executor of the political murder, can be nullified. The website "Persecution Chronicles" writes that "it will be a signal that murders of public and politicians figures might quite probably remain unpunished."
