Georgian MFA treats deployment of Russian boats in Abkhazia as piracy

As stated by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Georgia, the deployment by the Russian Federation of frontier motor boats in Abkhazian waters is qualified as piracy and pursues the aim "of strengthening of the occupational military contingent."

The official statement of Georgia's MFA followed as a response of Russia's intention to deploy three frontier-guarding motor boats models "Sobol" and "Mangust" in Ochamchira. The corresponding statement was made by Lieutenant Colonel Oleg Frolov, deputy head of the Frontier Department of the Russia FSB in Abkhazia. "The arrival of Russian frontier boats will ensure safety of the ships going to Abkhazian ports and defence of the marine boundaries of the republic," Mr Frolov said on December 4.

"Russia is scaling up its military potential in the occupied territories of Georgia, which is another rough violation of recognized norms and principles of the international law, and of its own international obligations," runs the official statement of the Georgian MFA.
