Abkhazia officially asks Ecuador to recognize its independence

Abkhazia has officially addressed Ecuador with a request to study the issue of recognizing its independence. This was reported by Maxim Gvindzhiya, deputy minister of foreign affairs of Abkhazia, who is at his working visit in Ecuador.

"We handed over an official letter addressed to President of Ecuador Rafael Correa with a request to recognize our independence and a number of materials on the history of our country," said the high-ranking diplomat.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the end of October it became known that the President of Abkhazia Sergey Bagapsh was going to address President of Ecuador Rafael Correa with an official request to recognize the independence of his republic.

"The Ecuador party is now carefully studying the materials and plans to make a soon statement on the issue," the ITAR-TASS Agency quotes Mr Gvindzhiya as saying.
