Dagestan residents are controversial to "children's curfew"

The ban for children and youth up to 18 years of age to stay in public places without accompanying adults from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., legalized by the deputies of the National Assembly of Dagestan, has caused different reactions among the population of the republic.

At the recent session of the National Assembly on October 30 the deputies adopted amendments to the Law "On Protection of the Rights of the Child in the Republic of Dagestan".

According to the amendments children under 18 shall have no right to stay without relatives or their substituting adults in public places from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The public places include streets, stadiums, parks, mini-parks, and enterprises of trade and public catering. Should a child or teenager be found alone within the above time interval in the above places, he or she will be delivered to his or her parents; and if it is not obviously possible - to specialized establishments for minors.

However, some Makhachkala residents would not agree with introduction of restrictive measures for children.

"Let them better create conditions for children's rest and development," said Aminat, mother of three children.

"For winter time, I can agree with this measure," Ruslan from Makhachkala said to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. "But in summer, when only after 9 in the evenings the heat goes down, and everyone goes to the sea; and people get out into yards and parks, this measure is senseless."
