Armenia: Arakelyan released under recognizance not to leave

On October 8, Tigran Arakelyan, a young activist of the Armenian opposition, accused of applying violence to policeman, was released from custody under recognizance not to leave.

On the eve, on October 7, the State Office of Public Prosecutor of Armenia discussed at its session the course of preliminary investigation on the criminal case of Tigran Arakelyan, a member of the Armenian National Congress.

According to Sona Truzyan, press secretary of the General Public Prosecutor, the main investigatory actions on the case are over, and Tigran Arakelyan's stay at large will not interfere with inspectors' further work.

Another reason for releasing Arakelyan is his poor health condition. In particular, the investigatory bodies possess conclusion of A. Malayan, Chief Oculist of the Ministry of Public Health of Armenia, according to which Arakelyan suffers from starting subatrophy of his eye nerve.
