Well-known Georgian composer Alexander Basilaya dies in Germany

Today in Germany after long illness in the age of 67 years known Georgian composer Alexander Basilaya has died.

The Merited Worker of Arts of Georgia Alexander Basilaya, who died today at the age of 67 after a long illness, was the sole arts director of the "Iveria" ensemble, popular in the country and abroad. He was the author of well-known musicals "Argonauts", "Jays' Wedding" and "Pirosmani", with which the "Iveria" successfully toured over many countries.

"He was well knew in dozens countries of the world," said Nani Bregvadze, a singer. "He was an outstanding composer, performer and excellent organizer."

The "Interfax" Agency reports that the composer's last work was a musical composition entitled "Something Has Ended", which was presented this week. 

The composer's body will be brought to Tbilisi, where he will be buried, as reported by the ITAR-TASS.
