Ingushetia: defence in "Case of Twelve" to appeal against cancellation of jury

Magomed Gandarov, advocate of three figurants in the so-called "Case of Twelve", is going to appeal against the decision to cancel the court of jurymen on his clients to the supervisory instance of the Supreme Court of Russia. Mr Gandarov himself told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent about it.

"Our final remedy is to try to appeal against the cancellation decision at the final supervisory instance. However, in my opinion, it is dependent on the instances interested of cancelling the court of jury in our case. We have poor chances that the decision of the Supreme Judge of Ingushetia Mikhail Zadvorny can be cancelled," said Magomed Gandarov.

Making comments on self-disqualification of all the judges of the Supreme Court engaged in the "Case of Twelve" (except for their chairman Mikhail Zadvorny), the advocate said that he explained this act of judges by their desire to transfer its consideration to some other region. According to his story, the case cannot be considered by a single judge but by three professional judges. If there are not enough judges, the case is transferred to another region.

"Today we have just rumours, but I think that it will soon be fixed legislatively. The decision of judges follows directly the recent instruction of President Dmitri Medvedev that cases on terrorism should be considered in other regions. I think they have decided to do this with the 'Case of Twelve'. It seems to me both the President and the court are following the intention of power agents," said the advocate.

He finds the litigation to be entirely forged.

"It looks as though special agencies want to convict as many residents from Northern Caucasus as possible. The 'Case of Twelve' was made to this model, said the defender.
