Day of Knowledge cancelled in a Chechen village because of militaries

In the Vedeno District of Chechnya, power agents refuse to leave a part of the school building they occupy; and the today's Day of Knowledge was cancelled. Parents of some schoolchildren are afraid to send their kids to this school because of their safety.

The militaries liked the school built last year under the order of Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov in the high-mountainous Eshilkhatoy village of the Vedeno District. With the start of summer vacations, they occupied the first floor of the building and now refuse to move out. Local residents are not happy.

"Last year, a new school was built in our village - a good, capital two-storied building. In summer, when children went to vacations, local power agents came and occupied the whole second level, having transformed classrooms into their barracks. They set up posts around and now are not going to free the building," a local resident said to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"We've addressed the District Department of Education, but they said that the school has a lot of classrooms in the ground floor, and the presence of militaries would not hamper the educational process. But the point is not in this. We are worried, first of all, of children's safety. What if militants appear and attack? Or a skirmish bursts out? Who will be in charge, if something happens with our children?" the man asked.

Both the MIA and the Ministry of Education and Sciences refused to make any comments on the situation in Eshilkhatoy.
