Yuri Chaika: in the Caucasus, 78 murders were ascribed to innocents

On August 24, Yuri Chaika, General Public Prosecutor of the Russian Federation, said, after his working visit to Dagestan, that in Northern Caucasus 78 murders had been ascribed to the persons who never committed them.

"I'm sure that Dagestan also has such cases, and I assure you that sanctions for 'window dressing' and falsified statistics will be tough. President of Dagestan has decided to entrust the prosecutor's office with off-schedule audits of minor businesses. I believe it's a good decision. But you should 'shelter' these businesses and take bribes," said Mr Chaika.

In the opinion of President of Dagestan Mukhu Aliev, the situation in his republic is aggravated by religious-political extremism: attempts on law enforcers, terror acts, etc.

The RIA "Dagestan" reports that out of 120 attempts on militiamen, 90 were committed in the Karabudakhkent and Khasavyurt Districts.

Mr Aliev has noted that Dagestan abounds with problems: "It's quite easy to find an offender; we're spang full of them. But we lack will to bring the case to the court."

On August 24, Andrei Nazarov, former deputy public prosecutor of the Chelyabinsk Region, was appointed to be the new main public prosecutor of Dagestan.

According to Yuri Chaika, a number of resonant crimes were committed in Dagestan; these cases have good prospects for solving, and Mr Nazarov's experience will help here.

In his turn, Andrei Nazarov told the audience of local public prosecutor's that he will personally cut short every fact of bribery, as reported by the "Rosbalt".
