Moscow: Azerbaijani suspected of kidnapping his fellow countryman detained

It was reported by Moscow law enforcement bodies that they detained a citizen of Azerbaijan, suspected of kidnapping, together with his four accomplices, of a compatriot with further extortion of some 800,000 US dollars from him.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot" with reference to victims' relatives, on August 22, militia of St Petersburg started an investigation  into the murder and mutilation of two Azerbaijanis. In the evening on August 20 in St Petersburg, unknown persons armed with knives attacked Vasif Odzhagverdiev (born in 1980) and Arzu Dzhafarov (born in 1981) near the house where they lived. Later, the former died and the latter was in a grave condition.

According to the source, the citizen of Azerbaijan who was suspected of kidnapping in Moscow was detained in the Degunina Lane in the north of the capital.

"The detainee is suspected of kidnapping on August 1, at about 4 p.m., in the Kronshtadt Boulevard, together his four unidentified accomplices, of his compatriot, whom he later brought to some unidentified location and violently kept in a cellar there for 23 days," said the source.

"After receiving a part of the ransom in the sum of 2 million roubles, the victim was released," the "Gazeta.Ru" quotes a source in law enforcement bodies. The "Trend" Agency adds that now militiamen establish the persons of the four accomplices.
