Georgia is ready to accommodate Guantanamo inmates

Georgia has expressed its readiness to accept prisoners from the American base in Guantanamo within its territory. This information was disseminated today by some Georgian and American media.

As stated by a source in the administration of US President Barack Obama, "Washington has held positive negotiations with Tbilisi" on Guantanamo prisoners and "Georgia has already expressed its readiness to help."

An article in The Washington Post runs, as quoted by the "Georgia Online" that "in the course of the interview high-ranking Georgian officials even joked that Tbilisi would be ready to accept all Guantanamo inmates if the States arrange their military base in Georgia."

Meanwhile, as reported by the "New Region", Irakliy Sesiashvili, an expert on security issues, believes that accommodation of Guantanamo prisoners by Georgia will increase the danger of terrorism in this region.

If a number of Guantanamo inmates are really delivered to Georgia, an isolated establishment should be built for them. Besides, the USA will have to pay essential money to Georgia for accommodating such a camp, the expert has added.

It is already known that six EU member-states - Great Britain, France, Ireland, Italy, Portugal and Spain - have expressed their readiness to accept prisoners.
