Karassin: 162 locals and 48 militaries perished last August in South Ossetia

In the course of last year's August events, in total 162 residents of South Ossetia were lost and 255 more wounded, and 48 Russian militaries perished, including 10 peacemakers, and 162 servicemen were wounded. These figures were presented by Gregory Karassin, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia.

"One year after the August tragedy we must commemorate the innocently lost residents of the republic and those who defended them from the aggressor. According to ICPO (Investigatory Committee at the Prosecutor's Office) of Russia, during the Georgian army's barbarous shelling and bombardment 162 residents of South Ossetia were lost and 255 more were wounded. In the course of repulsing the Georgian aggression, 48 Russian servicemen, including 10 peacemakers, were lost, and 162 more militaries were wounded," said Mr Karassin.

According to his story, in total 5143 civilians of South Ossetia have been recognized to be victims of the Georgia's warfare against this republic. "665 dwelling houses were completely destroyed and burnt down, and 2000 constructions were partially damaged," said Gregory Karassin at a meeting with journalists, where the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was present.
