Zakareishvili: Georgia has virtually no army

The information on building up the military potential in Georgia is just propaganda, Georgia has virtually no army, it is demoralized, says Pata Zakareishvili, Georgian political scientist, to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
 
"Georgia has virtually no army, its armed forces are demoralized. Many officers have been arrested, court trials are under way against officers and soldiers for deserting, etc. No mobilization can be observed", stresses Zakareishvili.
 
According to the political scientist, "the talk about arming the Georgian army is propaganda". "During the recent discussion in the US Congress it has been clearly stated that the USA is not going to transfer or sell to Georgia offensive arms, while there are going to be some limitations on the defensive arms, too", notes Zakareishvili.

According to the expert, "the USA is going to help Georgia in holding manoeuvres and professional training of officers", while "transfer of machinery and arms is out of the question".

Zakareishvili adds that Georgia does not receive the arms which are talked about in Russia. In their turn, the RF accusations are made in order to demonstrate to the world that aggression comes from Georgia.

The Georgian political scientist Paata Zakareishvili earlier stressed in an interview to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the loud statements about tension in the region are mostly groundless and are elements of propaganda.

The political scientist reminds that one year ago there was mobilization, constant movement of troops. "At the time, there really were shootings, people were really killed. Now, there is nothing of that. There are some incidents - somebody shoots into the air, but everything ends without casualties or violations", says Pata Zakareishvili adding that the information about wounded people as a result of the shooting does not correspond to the reality.
