In Ingushetia, Archakov suspected of hiding a militant set free under recognizance not to leave

Magomed Archakov, a resident of Ingushetia, detained by law enforcement bodies on July 2 on suspicion of hiding a militant, has been released from custody under recognizance not to leave.

Visingiri Kostoev, Mr Archakov's advocate, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the charges presented to his client were not lifted; and the investigation of the case continues.

"On July 13, under decision of the court, Archakov was set free under recognizance not to leave and is now at home. A criminal case was opened against him under Article 316 of the Russian Criminal Code ('Non-promised concealment of especially grave crimes'). Initially, inspectors also suspected my client of taking part in IAFs (illegal armed formations), but in the course of inquiry these suspicions were lifted," said the advocate.

He refrained from any comments on the statement of Archakov's mother that violent methods were applied to the detainee, having noted only that no physical examination to this end was held.

It should be noted here that the "Non-promised concealment of especially grave crimes" entails punishment in the form of a fine (up to 200,000 roubles) or imprisonment for the term from three to 24 months.

The "Caucasian Knot" has already reported that earlier Magomed's relatives had addressed their written applications to Acting President of Ingushetia R. Ya. Gaisanov, the Prosecutor's Office of the Nazran District and the Public Commission at President of the Republic of Ingushetia on observance of human rights. They had asserted that Archakov had no attitude to the liquidated militant. According to their version, Magomed used the land plot to raise his bull-calves; and nobody knew how an armed person had appeared there.

According to their application that was handed over to the Human Rights Centre "Memorial", on that day, July 2, power agents also detained Magomed Archakov's brothers - Ahmat, born in 1973, and Musa, born in 1977. They were released only on the third day. Magomed was kept in custody for a couple of days longer.
