In Azerbaijan, convicted editor Mamedov complains of absence of treatment at prison hospital

Despite the transfer of Novruzali Mamedov, head of the Talysh Cultural Centre and the editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Tolyshi Sado" (Voice of Talysh), to the hospital of the Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice, he is still deprived of duly qualified medical aid. This is the topic of the statement of the Committee in Defence of Novruzali Mamedov's Rights that has arrived to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent; last summer Mamedov was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment for treason.

On July 30, Mr Mamedov's relatives visited him at the hospital of the Ministry of Justice's Penitentiary Service, where Mamedov stayed for the third day. "Novruzali Mamedov's condition has worsened much more; he was placed into a common ward, without elementary sanitary facilities and without bed clothes. He can't freely move, eat and drink; he suffers from pains and short wind; but he gets no medical care," said Khilal Mamedov, head of the above Committee.

According to his story, on July 29, Mamedov was visited by Ombudsperson Elmira Suleimanova, who discussed the patient's condition with the hospital bosses. However, no comments were available at the Ombudsperson's office on Novruzali Mamedov's health condition.

The Committee in Defence of Novruzali Mamedov's Rights has again called the international public to help to release him.
