More complaints on quantity and quality of potable water in Dagestan

The government of Dagestan has held a special sitting dedicated to the problems with drinking water in the republic and convoked because of an increased number of complaints from the population on deficit or poor quality of the water they have to use.

According to Ali Dzhabrailov, head of the Housing Inspectorate for the Republic of Dagestan (RD), huge problems are faced by residents of Makhachkala. Tenants of 101 houses have no water above the fifth floor, and 7 houses of the city have no water at all.

Comments on water quality were made by Eleonora Omarieva, head of "Rospotrebnadzor" (Russian Federal Agency for Consumer Supervision) for the RD. According to her story, despite some improvements of water bacteriological quality in June against May, the sanitary-chemical condition remains poor, and contamination went up by 80 percent.

Representatives of the city administration and communal services, in their turn, named the problem of water deficit "invented" and accused journalists, in particular, of escalating the problem and "warming up the unnecessary agiotage around the issue."

"Citizens just refuse to pay for water. They think that we must supply it free of charge," said Magomed Gadziabdullaev, boss of the "Makhachkalavodkanal".
