Missing Novaya Urada resident found murdered in Dagestan

The body of Gitikhma Dzhavatkhanov, a resident of Novaya Urada village, Kumtorkalin District of Dagestan, who was regarded as missing since June 27, was identified by his relatives in the Makhachkala morgue. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent learnt about it from Svetlana Isaeva, chair of the NGO named "Mothers of Dagestan for Human Rights".

Ms Isaeva said, referring to Dzhavatkhanov's relatives, that, according to power agents, Dzhavatkhanov with two other persons treated as militants was killed in the course of armed clash in the vicinity of Gumden village, Kumtorkalin District.

  • Rights defenders give number of kidnapped people in Chechnya

    At least 80 residents of Chechnya have been kidnapped after a car with a DUSTUM license plate was set on fire; volunteers have identified the names of a number of them. In the village of Starye Atagi, Urus-Martan District, about 50 members of the Saif-Islam Elmurzaev family, suspected of setting the above car on fire, have been kidnapped; and about 30 people have been kidnapped in the Shali District, the "Memorial" Centre for Human Rights Defence (CHRD)* has reported.
