Detainees are fed once a day at IVS of Volzhskiy UVD

Valery Rostovschikov, Ombudsman of the Volgograd Region, made a check, together with employees of the GUVD (Regional Interior Department), of observance of the rights of the persons kept temporary detention facilities (known as "IVS"). Thus, in such facility of the city of Volzhskiy detainees are given meals once a day instead of three times, as prescribed by the law.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Ombudsman of the Volgograd Region had already tried to draw attention to the situation with prisoners in the Region.

On June 11, in the course of this joint inspection, the following IVSs and special accommodation facilities of regional interior bodies were visited: the IVSs and accommodation centres of UVDs of Volgograd and Volzhskiy, OVDs (Interior Divisions) of the Cheryshkovskiy, Leninskiy and Surovikinskiy Districts, and equipment of convoy premises in a number of district courts.

Serious departures from the regulations were registered in the IVS of Volzhskiy UVD, where no duly furnished individual beds were found, bed-clothes were not given, and detainees were fed once a day instead of prescribed three meals.

The IA "Vysota 102.0" reports that the convoy rooms of the Tsentralny District Court of Volgograd were found in a disastrous condition.

Earlier, on June 8, Ombudsman Rostovschikov also inspected the IVSs of Volgograd and convoy premises of district courts. First of all, he examined nutrition and medical support, and custody conditions of suspects and defendants.

During his visit to the special accommodation centre of the Volgograd UVD, the Ombudsman was approached by a resident of Tashkent who asked to help him to restore his documents after serving his term to make it possible for him to go home, the MIA's website reports.

The Ombudsman has noted that the rights of citizens who found themselves in a difficult situation should be respected and protected. People should be kept in normal conditions, as prescribed by the law.
