The family of the rescuer who died while cleaning oil in Anapa received an award.

The medal "For Courage" was awarded to the family of the rescuer of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, Semyon Lugovoy, who died a year and a half ago while cleaning up oil at the Anapa beach.

The head of the Southern Regional Search and Rescue Team of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, Andrey Pazynich, met with the family of the deceased rescuer and presented his wife with the medal "For Courage," which Semyon Lugovoy was posthumously awarded, as stated on the team's page in the social network "VKontakte".

First-class rescuer-diver Semyon Lugovoy died on February 28, 2025, while conducting diving operations to collect oil products from the bottom of the Black Sea in the village of Blagoveshchenskaya in the Krasnodar Territory. He did not surface within the established time frame. A safety diver was immediately dispatched to search for him, who found and brought Semyon to the surface. Unfortunately, resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.

By the decree of the President of the Russian Federation, for courage and selflessness shown while performing official duties in extreme conditions, Semyon Lugovoy was posthumously awarded the medal "For Courage" in July 2026.

On December 15, 2024, two tankers carrying oil sank in the Kerch Strait. As a result, a crew member of one of the tankers died. Additionally, there was an oil spill, which led to catastrophic environmental consequences, as stated in the report by "Caucasian Knot" "Oil spill in the Kerch Strait".

According to experts, the recovery of the biosystem of the Black Sea after the oil spill in the Kerch Strait will take from five to ten years.
