A resident of Kabardino-Balkaria died on a tourist route in the mountains

Rescuers in the Cherek region of Kabardino-Balkaria went in search of a missing local resident and found his body in a mountain crevice.

A 57-year-old man, who was traveling along a tourist route in the mountains, did not return within the established time. A report about the missing person was received by rescuers on the morning of September 14, after which an immediate search operation began.

Emergency Ministry employees conducted a survey of the area from the board of the departmental Mi-8 helicopter, but they were unable to locate the missing person from the air. Only by the evening of the second day of the search, September 15, did rescuers find the man's body in a crevice, according to a message on the page of the republican Emergency Ministry on VKontakte.

"Due to the onset of darkness, the evacuation of the body is scheduled for September 16," the publication notes. Rescuers do not provide information about the circumstances of the man's death.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that in the evening of September 6, an avalanche descended from Mount Mijirgi on a group of 33 climbers, among whom were members of the National Guard. Ten members of the group descended independently, and another six were hospitalized with injuries. Only on September 13 was the operation to search for 17 deceased completed.

The death of climbers in the Bezengey Gorge became the most massive incident in Russian mountainous areas in a quarter of a century, TASS noted, citing its own calculations.
