A resident of Stavropol has been sentenced to a long term for financing terrorism.

The Southern District Military Court sentenced resident of Kislovodsk Alexander Bazhenov to 10 years in prison for financing the "Islamic State"*.

According to the court and investigation, the defendant shared the ideology and practices of the banned terrorist international organization "ISIS"*.

On this basis, from January 3 to February 10, 2021, the defendant, while at his residence in Kislovodsk, transferred money from his account to a bank card of a person who was collecting funds for this organization, the press service of the Southern District Military Court reported today on its page on "VKontakte".

According to the court's verdict, the defendant was found guilty of financing terrorism 1 and was sentenced to 10 years in prison, with the first 3 years to be served in a penal colony. Bazhenov will serve his sentence in a strict regime correctional colony.

"The verdict has not entered into legal force and may be appealed by the parties in the Military Court of Appeal," the court's message states.

Alexander Bazhenov was born on July 2, 1986, in the village of Krasny Kurgan, Malokarachayevsky District, according to the record in the register of terrorists and extremists of Rosfinmonitoring. According to a bot that tracks updates in this list, Bazhenov's data with a note of involvement in terrorism was added there on February 13, 2026.
