A new case has been initiated against Tsarukyan.

The leader of the "Prosperous Armenia" party, Gagik Tsarukyan, is suspected of tax evasion involving the Ararat brandy factory. The defense called the case absurd, as Tsarukyan has transferred all his businesses to management since 2003, when he was elected to the National Assembly.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", on July 7, the court arrested the leader of the opposition party "Prosperous Armenia", billionaire Gagik Tsarukyan, accused of fraud and tax evasion, for two months. The defense stated that there are documents proving that Tsarukyan is a victim in this case, and appealed his arrest. On July 24, law enforcement detained Arman Davtyan, the director of the Ararat factory owned by Tsarukyan, on charges of tax evasion.

A new public criminal prosecution has been initiated against the leader of the "Prosperous Armenia" party, Gagik Tsarukyan, for tax evasion, one of Tsarukyan's defenders, Emin Khachatryan, reported after a more than 12-hour interrogation of the politician.

The lawyer called this proceeding absurd, reminding that Tsarukyan has transferred all his businesses to management since 2003, when he was elected to the National Assembly.

"Tsarukyan could not have any relation to the management of his businesses at all. The new criminal prosecution is related to the brandy factory. This is political persecution, this is political pressure," News.Am quotes him as saying.

The "Ararat" factory, which produces products under the brand "Noy", belongs to the president of Multi Group, Gagik Tsarukyan. Earlier, the factory "Araratcement" owned by him was transferred to state management, and the sports and wellness complex "Multi Wellness" was transferred to the ownership of Yerevan. The shopping complex "Arinj Mall" owned by Tsarukyan is partially sealed by employees of the State Revenue Committee of Armenia.

Tsarukyan's party "Prosperous Armenia", along with other opposition political parties, previously issued a statement about the illegitimacy of the authorities and plans to seek their removal.
