Security forces reported the thwarting of a double terrorist attack in Pyatigorsk.

A 19-year-old girl and a 47-year-old woman were scheduled to detonate bombs one after the other near a security agency building in Pyatigorsk. Ukrainian security forces stated that they intended to use them as suicide bombers.

According to the FSB, one of the suspects in the plot was detained as she was heading to the Pyatigorsk security agency building. She is a Russian citizen born in 2006.

Her backpack contained a homemade bomb equivalent to approximately 2 kg of TNT. The bomb was defused, Interfax reported today, citing the FSB's public relations center.

After the suspect was detained, security forces began searching for her possible accomplices. As a result, another suspect, a Russian citizen born in 1979, was detained near the scene. According to investigators, she was ordered by her Ukrainian handlers to deliver a second bomb to the site of the explosion, where emergency services were expected to be operating at the time.

"The terrorists' primary goal was to inflict the maximum number of casualties among law enforcement officers," the FSB stated.

The suspects admitted acting on instructions from Ukrainian intelligence agencies, the statement added.

Cases have been opened against the 19-year-old girl and the 47-year-old woman for attempted terrorist attack, illegal transportation of ammunition, and illegal manufacture of explosives, the Investigative Committee reported today.

According to investigators, no later than June 18 of this year, the suspects, on instructions from their Ukrainian handlers, arrived from Moscow to Pyatigorsk to commit terrorist attacks. The women were unknown to each other, unaware that they were being used as suicide bombers, and each acted independently.

On June 20, the suspects removed backpacks containing homemade bombs from hiding places. As she approached a security checkpoint in Pyatigorsk, the 19-year-old woman was detained. Bomb disposal experts defused the bomb in her backpack. Investigators then detained the second suspect.

"At the request of the investigation, the court has ordered pretrial detention for the suspects," the Investigative Committee noted on its Telegram channel.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that on May 29, security forces reported the arrest of a man in Novorossiysk who had assembled an explosive device and was preparing to blow up the railway tracks. According to the intelligence service, he acted on the instructions of his Ukrainian handlers.
