According to the "Caucasian Knot," as of June 16, government and security officials officially recognized at least 1,988 fighters from Dagestan as killed in the military operation in Ukraine.
State awards, memorial plaques, and appearances on Channel One do not guarantee state support for the families of those killed, according to the "Caucasian Knot" article "Three Comrades Served: How the Authorities Are Depriving the Families of Killed Volunteers of Benefits."
Soldier Shamil Menligaziyev from the village of Batyr-Murza was killed in the military operation zone. The chairman of the Nogai District Assembly of Deputies, Alibek Menlasanov, presented the Order of Courage and the Suvorov Medal to his family, the district administration's press service reported on its VKontakte page.
Thus, at least 1,989 fighters from Dagestan have been officially recognized as killed in Ukraine.
As a reminder, Dagestan ranks first among the regions of the North Caucasus Federal District in the number of those killed, whose names have been officially released by the authorities. Sergey Melikov, who led Dagestan in February 2022, was the first government official to announce that a Russian soldier had been killed in Ukraine, acknowledging the death of officer Nurmagomed Gadzimagomedov.
The "Caucasian Knot" maintains a list of names of natives of the North Caucasus and Southern Federal Districts killed in the military operation. The list was compiled based on data officially released by government officials and law enforcement agencies, according to the "Caucasian Knot" report "Northeastern Military District Statistics: Losses Are Growing in Southern Russia".
