A Dagestani soldier was killed in Ukraine.

Batyr Abdullaev from Makhachkala was killed in combat. Since the beginning of the Russian operation in Ukraine, authorities have publicly named at least 1,982 Dagestani servicemen killed there.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," by June 12, officials and security forces had officially recognized at least 1,981 Dagestani soldiers as killed in Ukraine.

Makhachkala Mayor Dzhambulat Salavov announced the death of Batyr Abdullaev from Makhachkala in the military operation zone today on his Telegram channel.

The administration's statement did not provide any biographical details about the soldier.

Thus, at least 1,982 Dagestani combatants have been officially recognized as killed on the Ukrainian front. The Caucasian Knot maintains a list of names of natives of the North Caucasus and Southern Federal Districts killed in the military operation. The list is based on data officially released by government officials and security agencies, according to the Caucasian Knot report "North Caucasus Military District Statistics: Casualties Risen in Southern Russia."

In mid-March, Dzhambulat Salavov reported that six fighters from Makhachkala had been killed in the military operation.

Dagestan ranks first among the North Caucasus Federal District regions in the number of those killed, whose names have been officially released by the authorities. Sergey Melikov, who led Dagestan in February 2022, was the first government official to announce that a Russian soldier had been killed in Ukraine, acknowledging the death of officer Nurmagomed Gadzimagomedov.

State awards, memorial plaques, and appearances on Channel One do not guarantee state support for the families of those killed, according to the Caucasian Knot article "Three Comrades Served: How the Authorities Are Depriving the Families of Killed Volunteers of Benefits," which describes the stories of the slain soldiers. Thus, the mother of the murdered Dmitry Ukhanov said she searched for her son's body for four months, while administration and military enlistment office staff inquired about the search progress without providing any assistance.

The reasons for the participation of Dagestan residents in military operations became the focus of discussion following the latest report of the death of combatants from that republic. The topic of moral responsibility for those involved in the military operation also emerged as a pressing issue.
