A court in Rostov-on-Don has sentenced a man for an attempted assassination attempt on military personnel.

The Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don found Polina Kostyuchenko, a resident of St. Petersburg, guilty of treason and attempted assassination of members of the command staff of the Russian Armed Forces.

According to the court, in 2024, the defendant and a Russian citizen she knew contacted a representative of Ukrainian intelligence. In November 2024, Kostyuchenko, while in Vyborg, Leningrad Oblast, received instructions from Ukrainian officials to travel to Rostov-on-Don to carry out activities on behalf of Ukrainian intelligence in exchange for monetary compensation.

In Rostov-on-Don, the friend recruited Kostyuchenko to help her manufacture an improvised explosive device. Between January 2 and 31, 2025, they acquired components and items necessary for the manufacture of an explosive, and received a portable charger and an explosive device from Ukrainian representatives, the press service of the Southern District Military Court reported on its Telegram channel.

Kostyuchenko stored the items and substances necessary for the manufacture of the explosive device until January 31, 2025, at their temporary residence.

Furthermore, between January 2 and 31, 2025, Kostyuchenko and her acquaintance were tasked with blowing up a serviceman from the command staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. To this end, the defendant conducted covert surveillance of the serviceman's routes, parking lot, and residence. Furthermore, on instructions from Ukrainian representatives, the women also monitored other military personnel, as well as an LPR government official, and were later detained by law enforcement.

Polina Kostyuchenko was found guilty of attempted illegal manufacture of explosives, illegal storage and transportation of explosives, attempted terrorist attack, and treason and sentenced to 17 years in a general regime penal colony, with a fine of 500,000 rubles.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that the Southern District Military Court will hear the case of a 40-year-old resident of Rostov-on-Don accused of involvement in a terrorist organization and treason.
