The arrest of the brother of the Catholicos of All Armenians has been extended.

An Armenian court has remanded in custody for two months the brother of Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II, Gevork Nersisyan, who is accused of hooliganism and obstructing election campaigning.

"Caucasian Knot" wrote that the brother and nephew of Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II, Gevork Nersisyan and Hambardzum Nersisyan, were arrested on charges of obstructing the campaign and hooliganism in November 2025. Both were arrested.

On January 20, the Armavir Court of General Jurisdiction extended the arrest of Gevorg Nersisyan, brother of Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II, News.am writes.

Nersisyan, who, like his son Hambardzum, is accused of hooliganism and obstructing election campaigning in Etchmiadzin, will remain in custody for another two months.

Let us recall that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on January 4 announced plans to "improve" the Armenian Apostolic Church, which include the removal of Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II, the adoption of a new charter and the election of a new head of the church.
