Georgiy Vashadze, one of the leaders of the Georgian opposition, who was sentenced to seven months in prison for failing to appear at a meeting of a parliamentary commission, has been released from Rustavi prison.

As "Caucasian Knot" reported, at the end of June last year the court sentenced one of the leaders of the Georgian opposition, Georgiy Vashadze, to seven months in prison for failing to appear at a parliamentary commission.

The leader of the opposition party "Strategy Agmashenebeli" Georgiy Vashadze went on freedom after serving a seven-month sentence in Rustavi Prison, according to Novosti-Gruzia.

In a comment to journalists, Vashadze stated that he was "full of enthusiasm and optimism."

Furthermore, Vashadze commented on the opposition's future actions. "We have one goal: we want freedom, to live in a just environment, to follow the path of development, to become a member of the European Union. We want people not to be arrested simply because they displeased someone," InterPressNews quotes him as saying.

As a reminder, on November 6, it was announced that the Georgian Prosecutor General's Office had launched an investigation into a criminal case against opposition leaders for crimes against the state. The charges include sabotage, organizing protests after the 2024 elections, hostile activity against Georgia, and calls for the overthrow of the government.
