The court sided with a resident of Kabardino-Balkaria in a dispute with doctors

A court in Kabardino-Balkaria has ordered doctors to provide a patient with cystic fibrosis with a vital drug free of charge.

As "Kavkazsky Uzel" wrote, in the Krasnodar Territory, parents of children suffering from cystic fibrosis have repeatedly complained that their children are not receiving enough medication. In March 2021, the Kuban Ministry of Health stated that children with cystic fibrosis are provided with medication based on budgetary capabilities.

A disabled person of the II group from the Prokhladnensky district, suffering from cystic fibrosis, went to court, demanding that the Ministry of Health of Kabardino-Balkaria give him the drug "Trikafta" free of charge, which was prescribed to him "for vital indications" by the council of the Research Institute of Pulmonology, the newspaper "Gazeta Yuga" reports today.

The cost of a package of this drug is about 1.3 million rubles, but one patient needs 12-13 packages per year, the newspaper writes.

Representatives of the Ministry of Health of the republic and the Prokhladnensky district hospital objected to satisfying the claim. However, the court indicated that the right to free provision of the patient with a vital drug "at the expense of the federal and regional budgets is confirmed by the case materials."

The judge noted that regional Ministries of Health must submit applications for the supply of this drug to the Russian Ministry of Health no later than November 1, and ordered the republic's Ministry of Health to immediately organize free provision of the plaintiff with Trikafta "on an ongoing basis until the drug is cancelled," the publication says.

Recall that in December 2024, residents of Moscow and the Moscow Region, as well as Yoshkar-Ola, Krasnodar, Perm, Petrozavodsk and Chelyabinsk, whose children suffer from cystic fibrosis, supported parents from Gelendzhik, who demanded that the problem with the supply of the American drug Trikafta be resolved. According to them, the supply of this drug will be stopped by the authorities in January 2025.

In February 2021, a resident of Kuban complained that her nine-year-old daughter with cystic fibrosis was not receiving the drug "Creon" because the regional Ministry of Health did not provide her with this drug. After the story was publicized in the media, parents of children with cystic fibrosis who faced the same problem began writing to the woman.
