Baku native accused in General Kirillov murder case

A new defendant has appeared in the case of the murder of the head of the radiation, chemical and biological defense troops Igor Kirillov; he turned out to be a Russian citizen born in Baku.

As "Kavkazsky Uzel" reported, on January 16, the Basmanny Court of Moscow remanded in custody natives of Ingushetia Batukhan Tochiev and Ramazan Padiev, accused of committing a terrorist attack and illegally storing and manufacturing explosives. Both Tochiev and Padiev did not admit guilt.

Igor Kirillov and his assistant Ilya Polikarpov were killed on the morning of December 17, 2024, in the southeast of Moscow. The explosive device was planted in a scooter that was parked next to the entrance. A citizen of Uzbekistan, Akhmad Kurbonov, is accused of the murder.

One of the defendants in the case of the murder of the chief of the radiation, chemical and biological defense troops, Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, was Robert Safaryan, a native of Baku and a Russian citizen. He was detained on December 23, 2024, and accused of illegal trafficking of explosives. According to the investigation, it was he who supplied the perpetrator, Akhmadjon Kurbonov, with the bomb. Safaryan has been charged with a terrorist attack, as well as with the illegal manufacture and illegal sale of explosives. He is currently under arrest by a court decision, TASS reports, citing case materials.

The defense petitioned to transfer Safaryan to house arrest, Kommersant reports.

Akhmadzhon Kurbonov, Ramazan Padiyev, and Batukhan Tochiyev have been arrested in connection with the general's murder (all of them were added to the list of persons involved in terrorism and extremism by Rosfinmonitoring in January 2024). All three are charged under the article on terrorist acts (clause "b" of Part 3 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). According to investigators, Kurbonov was recruited by Ukrainian special services, who promised him a cash reward of $100,000 and travel to live in one of the EU countries. Padiyev and Tochiyev rented housing for Kurbonov and transferred funds from their curator to him.
