The prosecutor appealed the verdict in the Akhobadze case

The acquittal in the drug trafficking case against the mouthpiece of pro-European protests in Tbilisi, doctor Georgiy Akhobadze, has been appealed by the prosecutor's office.

As "Caucasian Knot" wrote, in December 2024, a court in Tbilisi remanded in custody resuscitation doctor Georgiy Akhobadze, who was detained after a protest and accused of drug possession. Akhobadze refused to admit guilt and stated that the drugs were planted on him by security forces. On August 6, the courtfound him not guilty and released him from custody.

The Georgian Prosecutor's Office has appealed the decision of the Tbilisi City Court, according to which the doctor Giorgi Akhobadze, accused of drug crimes, was found not guilty, Mariam Madzgarashvili.

"Yesterday, the prosecutor filed an appeal in Giorgi's case. The fight continues in the Tbilisi Court of Appeal. We will meet there," wrote Giorgi Akhobadze's lawyer Mariam Madzgarashvili on her Facebook page*.

On August 15, the court found Tedo Abramov not guilty and released. He was also accused of a drug crime in December and denied his guilt. On September 3, Nika Katsia, a participant in the pro-European protests, was also acquitted of charges of large-scale drug possession.

Russian Anton Chechin, who also took part in the protests, was sentenced to 8.5 years in prison on September 2 in a drug case. He claimed that the drugs were planted on him.
