Wildfires in Dagestan extinguished with help from villagers

Landscape fires in the Tlyaratinsky district and the Bezhtinsky section have been extinguished, with the participation of residents of Dagestani villages.

As "Kavkazsky Uzel" reported, on September 4, forest fires were extinguished in the Untsukulsky and Tsumadinsky districts of Dagestan, and landscape fires in the Tlyaratinsky district and the Bezhtinsky section were localized over an area of 19.1 hectares and 7.2 hectares, respectively.

The landscape fires in the Tlyaratinsky district and the Bezhtinsky section have been extinguished, the government of Dagestan reported on its Telegram channel on the evening of September 5.

"About 160 people and about 30 pieces of equipment took part in extinguishing the two fires in hard-to-reach areas. The government of Dagestan expresses gratitude to everyone who participated in extinguishing the fires - employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, forestry, volunteers, volunteers and local residents," the publication says.

Recall that on August 31, the administration of the Untsukulsky district reported that the fire had approached the villages, and the grass is burning 3-4 kilometers from the village of Untsukul and 1.5 kilometers from the village of Gimry. Volunteers from among the villagers were already participating in extinguishing the fire. On September 2, it became known that residents of the village of Gimry even at night help extinguish the fire, despite the difficult terrain.

On September 4, the Dagestan Forestry Department thanked the residents of the village of Sikar in the Tlyaratinsky District, noting that the women "not only fed and watered the firefighters, but also carried water for several kilometers in backpack fire extinguishers."

Villages in Dagestan have previously had to participate in extinguishing wildfires. For example, at the end of March, a fire started in the forest near the village of Inkuchimahi in the Levashinsky District, and local residents complained about the inaction of the authorities. According to them, the fire was extinguished by the villagers themselves, and the emergency services representative only asked them for photos and videos for the report. By April 9, the fire was extinguished.

On March 15, a forest fire occurred near the village of Khryug in the Akhtynsky District, and more than 100 residents of nearby villages took part in extinguishing it. At the request of the villagers, an Emergencies Ministry helicopter was called to the area, and only on March 18 did it join in extinguishing the fire. The open fire was extinguished the next day.
