Krasnodar resident sentenced to nine years for attempting to set fire to relay cabinet

Krasnodar resident Mikhail Latiy will serve the first three years of his sentence in prison, the rest - in a maximum security penal colony.

As "Kavkazsky Uzel" wrote, on August 15, Crimean resident Alina Grek received 15 years in prison after a trial in a military court in Rostov-on-Don in the case of preparing to set fire to a relay cabinet.

The Krasnodar Regional Court sentenced 44-year-old Mikhail Latiy to 9 years in a maximum security penal colony with the first three years to be served in prison for attempting to set fire to relay cabinets on the railway, the joint press service of the regional courts reported.

In February 2025, Latiy was looking for a job - he was offered to earn money by a user in a messenger with the nickname "Nikolas", who promised 30 thousand rubles for setting fire to metal relay cabinets with equipment, the press service of the regional prosecutor's office reported.

According to the joint press service of the regional courts, the cabinets are responsible for the safe movement of rail transport. On February 4, Latiy poured an incendiary mixture on a relay cabinet and set it on fire. Latiy prepared an incendiary mixture, poured it on two relay cabinets on the railway in Krasnodar and tried to set them on fire, but the mixture did not ignite due to bad weather. Seeing people approaching him, the man fled, he was later detained.

The defendant admitted his guilt and repented of his actions. He stated that he committed the crime because of the desire to make money. He was sentenced to 9 years in a maximum security penal colony with the first 3 years to be served in prison. The court verdict has not yet entered into legal force.

Note that Latiy was found guilty of Part 1 of Article 281 of the Criminal Code (Sabotage), which provides for a sentence of ten to twenty years.

Recall that on August 5, the Court of Appeal upheld the verdict of Krasnodar Krai resident Eduard Gladkikh, who was sentenced to 16 years for arson on the railway and an attempt to blow up a gas station in Krasnodar.
