Volunteers recorded oil spills on the Bugayskaya Spit

On the Bugayskaya Spit, emissions of petroleum products accompanied by a strong smell were recorded, some of them with a sorbent. Also, the carcasses of two dead birds were found near the water, volunteers of the "Network, Sieve, Shovel" headquarters reported. The Zhemchuzhnaya rehabilitation center received 24 birds, three of them died.

As "Kavkazsky Uzel" reported, after the oil spill in the waters of Novorossiysk, eight birds soiled with oil products were arrived at the rehabilitation center in Vityazevo.

New oil spills on the Bugayskaya Spit were reported by volunteers from the "Network, Sieve, Shovel" headquarters, who were cleaning the shore from fuel oil here.

"This border here is all oil products," says the volunteer in the video, pointing along the shore. "We are now at the fish farm," she adds.

In the video, the volunteer picks up one of the spills with his fingers, and it remains on his fingers oily liquid. According to her, the emissions are accompanied by a strong smell.

"We monitored the spit up to 6 km towards Veselovka. Part of the emissions are odorless and presumably already with a sorbent, starting from about one km from the fish farm. Before that, all the way to the Aurum Hotel (Blagoveshchenskaya) - a strip of pure oil product with a distinct smell," she said in another video. According to her, the volunteers contacted Kuban-Spas to resolve the issue of the sorbent.

Also, during the inspection of the site, the volunteers found two dead birds at a distance of about 300 meters from each other.

To date, 24 birds contaminated with oil products have been admitted to the Zhemchuzhnaya rehabilitation center in Vityazevo, three of them have died, according to a message on the center's Telegram channel today.

On the evening of August 31, when the total number of birds admitted was 18, the center's volunteers reported that 14 of them had 100% contamination. "The difference between fuel oil and petroleum products is that petroleum products are liquid, they completely saturate the feather and skin. This is a chemical burn. Neurological abnormalities have also been observed in some people," the report says.

The Baklan Center from Novorossiysk asked for help in monitoring the coast in its Telegram channel - according to the data they receive, the water is covered with a film of petroleum products.

Recall that on December 15, 2024, two tankers with fuel oil sank in the Kerch Strait. As a result, a crew member of one of the tankers died. Fuel oil was found on all the beaches of Anapa, on the coast in the Temryuk district (from the village of Veselovka to the village of Blagoveshchenskaya) and on the coast of the Sea of Azov in the Slavyansky district of Kuban, according to the "Caucasian Knot" report "The extent of pollution in the south of Russia with fuel oil".

Since the end of February, volunteers have reported an increase in the number of birds covered in fuel oil. They asked for help in rescuing the birds from everyone who had the opportunity, pointing out that there were not enough volunteers to help the birds. In total, since the beginning of the fuel oil spill, according to data as of February 27, the headquarters have accepted more than eight thousand birds. On April 1, ecologist Yevgeny Vitishko stated that since the beginning of the fuel oil spill, volunteers had picked up more than 8.4 thousand birds, but by the end of March the number of birds arriving had sharply decreased.
