Picket demanding release of Armenian prisoners held outside EU mission building

Former Minister of Education and Science of Armenia Armen Ashotyan held a solo picket in front of the EU mission in Yerevan demanding the release of Armenian prisoners held in Azerbaijan.

As "Kavkazsky Uzel" reported, the Baku Military Court is considering the criminal case of 15 former leaders and residents of Nagorno-Karabakh. They have been charged under more than 20 articles, and the case contains 2,548 episodes. At the hearing on June 12, former commander of the Karabakh army Levon Mnatsakanyan told what mines were installed in the areas around Karabakh during different years of the conflict. In July, victims spoke at the hearings - they told how they were captured by the Armenian military and subjected to torture. Three former presidents of Nagorno-Karabakh told investigators and the court in Baku on August 28 that all orders and instructions regarding military actions against Azerbaijan in different years came to them from Yerevan.

Fifteen former Karabakh officials are on trial in Azerbaijan, including former presidents Arayik Harutyunyan, Bako Sahakyan and Arkady Ghukasyan, as well as former parliament speaker David Ishkhanyan and former state minister of Nagorno-Karabakh Ruben Vardanyan; the latter’s case is being heard separately. "Caucasian Knot" has prepared a report "Vardanyan and 15 leaders of Karabakh: the main thing about the courts in Baku".

Deputy Chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia, former Minister of Education and Science Armen Ashotyan held a solo picket in front of the building of the European Union mission in Yerevan demanding the release of Armenian captives held in Azerbaijan.

He hung a poster with the inscription in English: "Freedom for the Armenian hostages in Baku," News.Am reports

"The values that have been promoted and presented in our country as European and universal for decades are today being trampled upon and ignored by the very structure that should have been the main bearer of these values. The EU does not put pressure on either Baku or the Yerevan authorities to release the hostages and other citizens," the "Novosti Armenia" agency quoted him as saying.

At the meeting on August 29, Bako Sahakyan stated that the supply of weapons, ammunition, military equipment and personnel during the periods before and after the 44-day war of 2020, it was carried out by the military-political leadership of Armenia at the expense of the state budget, APA.Az reports

The same data was confirmed by David Babayan. "Weapons, ammunition and other supplies were delivered via the Gorus-Lachin-Khankendi, Basarkechyar-Kelbajar-Agdere-Khankendi roads. The only source of financing for the regime was also Armenia. Energy obtained from hydroelectric power plants in the then occupied territories of Azerbaijan, as well as grain and alcoholic beverages were sold to Armenia. In addition, alcoholic beverages were exported to many foreign countries through Armenia. The process will continue on September 1, the publication says.

Note that there are no video or audio broadcasts from the trials of the former leaders of Karabakh; all information about them is available only in the presentation of Azerbaijani news agencies.
